Guadalajara, capital of Jalisco, is the authentic Mexico — the Mexico of Mexicans, far from beach resorts. It’s the birthplace of mariachi and tequila, both born here, and a big city that has kept its neighbourhood soul: shady plazas, colourful markets, taquerías on every street corner. For us, it’s also our base for the winter of 2026-2027: we’re settling in for a long stay starting in December 2026. So we’ve scouted the neighbourhoods where slow living feels right — Colonia Americana and its cafés, Chapultepec and its youthful vibe, the historic centre, not to mention Tlaquepaque and its art galleries. And since the city sits at altitude (about 1,500 m), evenings stay cool even in the middle of the Mexican ‘winter’: perfect for months-long stays.
