Tangerine — our everyday bank

Tangerine is a Canadian online bank (a subsidiary of Scotiabank). There are no branches: everything is done online or in the app. It’s our everyday bank.

What we like

• Chequing account with no monthly fees, with unlimited transactions.
• Interac e-Transfers that are free and unlimited.
• High-interest savings account (with regular promotional rates on new deposits).
• Free access to Scotiabank ABMs across Canada, for withdrawals and cash deposits alike.
• Money-Back credit card with no annual fee.
• Simple investment portfolios with low management fees.
• Everything is available to residents of Quebec, bonuses included — which isn’t the case with every online bank.

What we like less

• No branches: you can’t talk to someone in person.
• Cash deposits only through Scotiabank ABMs.
• Savings account interest rates can change at any time.
• The product range is more limited than at a big traditional bank (for our everyday needs, it’s never been a problem).

When you open your first Tangerine account with one of our Orange Keys and meet the conditions, Tangerine pays $50 to each of us.

• Sign up with a valid Orange Key (see below).
• Open your first Tangerine account (the credit card alone doesn’t count).
• Deposit at least $250 within 60 days of opening.
• Keep a balance of at least $250 for 60 consecutive days.
